How to Install the Mars Caravan Bike Receiver Hitch – “How To” Video Guide

The Mars bike receiver hitch lets you mount a suitable bike rack to your caravan so you can bring your bikes along on every adventure. This “How To” video shows the general installation process, using the genuine Mars receiver kit on compatible models.

Before You Start

• Confirm that your Mars caravan model is compatible with the receiver hitch kit you have purchased.
• Watch the installation video from start to finish.
• Park the caravan on flat, stable ground with handbrake on and stabilisers down.
• Gather the required tools (spanners, sockets, torque wrench if specified, safety glasses, etc.).

Important: This installation does not require any welding, drilling into structural members or fabrication work.

Quick Installation Overview

1. Identify the mounting points
   Refer to your hitch instructions and the video to locate the correct chassis points/brackets where the receiver is designed to attach.
2. Position the receiver hitch
   
   Hold the receiver in place and make sure it is:
   • Square to the chassis and centred left-to-right.
3. Install mounting hardware
   
   Using the supplied bolts, plates or brackets:
   • Fit all hardware finger-tight at first.
   • Check alignment again from multiple angles.
   • Tighten to the specifications given in the printed instructions (torque values if provided).
4. Check clearances and access
   
   Confirm that:
   • Rear lights, number plate and camera (if fitted) remain visible when a rack is installed.
   • The rear of the van still has an acceptable departure angle for your intended use.
   • Cables, wiring and plumbing are not pinched, rubbed or interfered with by the hitch or fixings.
5. Fit the bike rack (if applicable)
   Install your bike rack into the receiver according to the rack manufacturer’s instructions, and secure with the appropriate pin/lock.

Weight Limits and Loading

For safety and compliance, you must never exceed the rated capacities of any component:

• Check the maximum load rating of:

  • Your caravan’s relevant weight limits (e.g. rear load recommendations).
