Projecta BMS Won't Connect to Bluetooth? How to Fix It

Troubleshooting the Projecta Battery Monitor Connection

If your Projecta Battery Management System (BMS) won't pair or connect to your phone over Bluetooth, it's usually a quick fix. In most cases it's a simple app or permissions setting, and where it isn't, a two-minute reset of the monitor screen clears the fault. Work through the checks below in order before pulling anything apart.

1. Quick Checks Before You Start

Nine times out of ten the connection issue is one of these, so rule them out first:

  • Use the correct app, updated. Make sure you have the right Projecta / IntelliJay battery monitor app installed, and that it's running the current version.
  • Bluetooth and permissions are on. Bluetooth needs to be switched on, and the app needs permission to access Bluetooth and discover nearby devices. On newer phones this is the most common culprit — permissions often get denied when the app is first installed.
  • Stay close to the unit. Keep your phone within a couple of metres of the monitor while pairing.
  • Only one phone at a time. The unit pairs to a single device. If it's already connected to another phone — a partner's, or a previous pairing — it won't show up for a second one. Turn Bluetooth off on the other phone first.
  • Confirm power to the unit. Check the monitor / Bluetooth node is powered and the lead back to the transformer is properly seated.
  • Enter the pairing code. When the unit appears in the app's device list, tap it and enter the code shown on the monitor screen.
  • Phone software up to date. Older phones with dated Bluetooth are a common pain point. Minimum iOS 8.0 / Android 4.4.

2. The Fix: Reset the Monitor Screen

If the basics above check out and it still won't connect, reseat the monitor screen. This power-cycles the Bluetooth node and clears the connection fault.

  1. Remove the monitor screen from its housing.
  2. Disconnect it — unplug the lead from the back of the screen / Bluetooth node.
  3. Plug it back in and refit the screen.

Re-open the app and it should now find the unit.

3. If It Still Won't Connect

  • Forget and re-pair. In your phone's Bluetooth settings, "forget" the Projecta device, then pair fresh through the app.
  • Restart your phone. This clears a stuck Bluetooth stack, which can block new connections.
  • Try a different phone. This confirms whether the problem is the unit or the handset.

4. When to Contact Projecta

If it still won't connect after the screen reset and the steps above, the fault may be with the unit itself. Contact Projecta technical support on 1800 294 294 with your model number handy.

Summary

  • Start by ruling out the simple stuff — right app, Bluetooth on, permissions granted, and not already paired to another phone.
  • If that doesn't do it, reset the monitor screen: remove it, unplug it, plug it back in.
  • Still stuck? Forget and re-pair, restart the phone, or test with another handset.
  • If none of that works, call Projecta support on 1800 294 294.
