What’s happening?
The air pump is fitted with a thermal protection circuit. If the pump temperature rises too high, it will shut off automatically to prevent damage. Once the pump cools down, it will become operational again.
When is this most likely to occur?
This is typically triggered by a combination of:
- A very hot day (high ambient temperature), and
- The hot water system being switched on at the same time.
When both are running together in hot conditions, the temperature around the pump can rise enough to activate the protection shut-off.
What you might notice
- The air pump stops running partway through operation
- The system appears to “pause” and won’t continue inflating/adjusting
- No permanent fault — it returns once temperatures drop
What to do if the pump shuts off
- Switch OFF the hot water system (if it’s on).
- Leave the air pump alone to cool down. The protection circuit is automatic and will reset once the pump temperature returns to normal.
- Reduce heat load where possible:
- Move into shade if you can
- Improve airflow around the van (open doors/hatches where appropriate)
- Once cooled, try operating the air system again.
Important: Don’t try to bypass the protection feature. It’s there to prevent pump damage.
How to prevent it on hot days
On very hot days, we recommend you switch OFF your hot water system and only turn it on when you actually need hot water.
- Keep hot water OFF by default during extreme heat
- Turn it ON only when needed, then switch it back OFF once finished
- Avoid running hot water and the air pump together for long periods in high heat
Is this a fault?
In most cases, no — this is a normal protection feature working as designed. If the pump returns after cooling, there is typically nothing to repair.
When to contact support
Please contact our team if:
- The pump doesn’t come back after it has had time to cool
- It keeps happening on mild/normal temperature days
- You notice unusual smells, signs of melting/heat damage, or abnormal noises
- The system is repeatedly stopping immediately after starting (even with hot water OFF)
When you reach out, include your van model, build details (if known), the outside temperature, and whether the hot water
system was ON at the time — it helps us diagnose quickly.
