Dometic PI8022 — How to Use, Clean & Troubleshoot (2-Burner Gas Cooktop with Glass Lid)

The Dometic PI8022 is a compact 2-burner LPG cooktop with a safety glass lid and piezo ignition (AU version). It’s designed for RV and caravan kitchens where bench space matters, with strong heat output and simple controls.

Quick Highlights

  • Fuel: ULPG (Universal LPG) — operating pressure 27.5 mbar
  • Burners: 2 burners (1.1 kW + 1.8 kW)
  • Size: 480 W × 370 D × 83 H mm
  • Bench cut-out: 466 W × 358 D × 85 H mm
  • Ignition: piezo ignition
  • Lid: safety glass lid (keep open while cooking)

Before You Start

  • Ventilation: Always cook in a well-ventilated space (open a window/roof hatch).
  • Open the glass lid: The lid must be open before igniting a burner.
  • Keep flames covered: Use pots/pans large enough to cover the flame and keep them stable on the pot grid.
  • Safe pot sizing (guide):
    • Small burner (A): 9–15 cm pot diameter
    • Large burner (C): 16–22 cm pot diameter
  • Flame control: Keep the flame within the edge of the pot and centre the pot over the burner.

How to Light a Burner

Step-by-step

  1. Remove any pots/pans from the burner you’re lighting so you can see the ignition clearly.
  2. Turn gas ON at the gas bottle/cylinder, and open any inline gas isolation valve (if fitted).
  3. Select the burner you want to use.
  4. Push in and turn the burner knob to the ignition/high-flame position.
  5. Ignite:
    • Piezo ignition: keep the knob pushed in while igniting, then hold for ~3 seconds after it lights.
    • Manual ignition (if needed): light with a match/gas lighter while the knob is held in the ignition/high position.
  6. If it doesn’t light: do not keep trying continuously. Turn the knob off, allow gas to clear, then try again.
  7. Once lit, adjust the flame to suit your cooking.

Important: The ignition process must be visible from above and not hidden by cookware. Keep the flame under the pot (don’t let it spill past the pot edge).

How to Switch Off Safely

  1. Turn the burner knob back to OFF (zero).
  2. When finished cooking, turn the gas OFF at the gas bottle/cylinder.
  3. If your van has an inline isolation valve for the cooktop, close it as well.

Cleaning & Care

  • Let it cool first: surfaces may remain hot — keep children away until fully cool.
  • Use standard commercial cleaning agents and a soft cloth/sponge.
  • Do not use sharp/hard objects (they can damage the appliance).
  • Do not use a steam cleaner.
  • When cleaning, pay special attention to the burner to ensure there are no blockages.

Maintenance & Safety Checks

  • If gas valves are difficult to turn, that’s considered abnormal operation and may require servicing.
  • For safety, have the appliance checked by authorised personnel annually for proper function.

Troubleshooting (Fast Fixes)

Burner won’t ignite

  • Check the lid is open and you have good ventilation.
  • Confirm the gas bottle/cylinder valve is open (and any inline isolation valve is open).
  • Try lighting again with the knob held in, then hold briefly after ignition.
  • If ignition is unreliable, try a match/gas lighter and inspect for dirt/blockage around the burner.

Flame is too large / licking around the pot

  • Use a larger pot and centre it over the burner.
  • Turn the flame down so it stays under the pot base.

Knobs stiff or hard to turn

  • Stop using the appliance and arrange a service inspection.
