Dometic MC102 Cooker — How to Use (Gas Burners, Grill & Electric Hotplate)
The Dometic MC102 is a built-in RV cooker that combines a multi-burner gas cooktop, an electric hotplate (240V), and an integrated gas grill. It also uses 12V for features like electronic ignition (and may include light/fan controls depending on your van wiring).
Quick Overview
- Fuel: LPG (Universal LPG / ULPG)
- Power: 230–240V AC for the electric hotplate, plus 12V DC for ignition/features
- Lid safety: Always lift the glass lid before lighting; let everything cool before closing
- Ventilation: Cooking with gas creates heat and moisture — keep ventilation open while cooking
Before You Cook
- Ventilate: open a window/roof hatch and keep vents open.
- Lift the glass lid fully and wipe any spilled liquid off the lid before opening.
- Turn gas on at your van’s main gas tap/bottle.
- Power check: if you want the electric hotplate, confirm you have 240V supply (and if using electronic ignition, ensure 12V is on).
- First-time use tip: run the oven/grill on a high setting briefly (with good ventilation) to burn off any manufacturing residues.
Control Knobs & Symbols (What They Mean)
- OFF: all burners off
- High flame / Low flame: gas hob + grill flame settings
- Electric hotplate: numbered heat settings (positions)
- Other buttons (if fitted): electronic ignition, light, fan
Note: knob layouts can vary slightly by installation, but the symbols are typically shown on the cooktop top surface.
How to Use the Gas Cooktop Burners
Electronic ignition (normal method)
- Make sure there are no pans or objects sitting on the burner you’re trying to ignite.
- Push in the selected burner knob and turn to HIGH flame.
- While keeping the knob pushed in, press the electronic ignition button.
- Once the flame lights, keep the knob pushed in for a few seconds so the flame stays lit, then adjust to the desired flame.
Manual ignition (if electronic ignition fails)
- Push in and turn the knob to HIGH flame.
- Light the burner with a match or gas lighter.
- Keep the knob pushed in for a few seconds, then adjust the flame.
If a burner won’t light: set the knob to low/off, check you have gas in the bottle, and try again. If it still fails, shut off gas at the main tap and contact service.
How to Use the Grill (Gas)
- Open the grill door fully before igniting or using the grill.
- If your unit has a grill heat shield, pull it out while the grill is in use (it will be hot — use gloves to close it after cooking).
- Push in and turn the grill control knob to HIGH flame and ignite (electronic ignition or match).
- Cook with the door open and monitor closely.
- Important: don’t run the grill continuously for long periods, and don’t use the grill as an oven.
How to Use the Electric Hotplate (240V)
- Confirm you have 240V AC connected (mains or suitable generator/inverter setup).
- Use a flat-bottom pan and make sure the pan base is dry before placing it on the hotplate.
- Turn the hotplate knob from 0 (OFF) to a heat setting (lower numbers = gentler heat; higher = hotter).
- A small indicator light near the knob may illuminate when the hotplate is on.
If the hotplate hasn’t been used for a long time: run it on a low setting briefly to remove any moisture.
After Cooking
- Turn all knobs back to OFF.
- Let surfaces cool completely.
- Shut off the gas at the main gas tap/bottle.
- Once fully cool, clean and then close the glass lid.
Cleaning & Care
- Wait until the cooker is cool before cleaning.
- Use mild detergent/soapy water and soft cloths/sponges.
- Avoid: abrasive pads, corrosive/chlorine-based cleaners, steel wool, metal brushes (especially on glass).
- Do not use steam cleaners.
- Clean spills early (don’t allow heavy spillover to bake on).
Troubleshooting (Quick Fixes)
- No ignition / no flame: check LPG bottle, main gas tap, and try manual ignition.
- Flame won’t stay lit: after lighting, hold the knob in a few seconds before releasing.
- Hard-to-turn gas knobs: this can indicate abnormal operation — arrange inspection/service.
