Dometic PI8023 — How to Use, Clean & Troubleshoot (3-Burner Gas Cooktop with Glass Lid)

The Dometic PI8023 is a compact 3-burner ULPG (LPG) cooktop with a safety glass lid and 12V ignition, designed for caravans and RVs where bench space is limited.

Quick Highlights

  • Burners: 3 (one smaller burner + two larger burners)
  • Gas type: ULPG (LPG)
  • Ignition: 12V push-button ignition (requires 12V supply)
  • Glass lid: protects the cooktop when not in use and adds bench space (only close when fully cool)

Before You Start

  • Ventilation: Open a window/roof hatch and make sure the area is well ventilated before cooking.
  • Open the glass lid fully before lighting any burner.
  • Check gas is on: Turn on your gas bottle/cylinder and any isolation tap feeding the cooktop.
  • Check 12V is on: If ignition won’t spark, you may not have 12V power to the cooktop.
  • Use stable cookware: Pots/pans should sit flat and stable on the trivets and be large enough to cover the flame.

Using the right pot size helps the flame stay under the pot base (safer and more efficient):

  • Burner A: 9–15 cm
  • Burner B: 10–18 cm
  • Burner C: 16–22 cm

How to Light a Burner

  1. Make sure the glass lid is open and the area is ventilated.
  2. Choose a burner and push in the control knob, then turn it to the ignition/high flame position.
  3. Use the 12V igniter to spark the burner (the lighting process should be visible from above and not hidden by cookware).
  4. If the burner lights, keep the knob pressed in briefly so the flame stays on, then adjust the flame as needed.
  5. If it doesn’t light within a short attempt, turn the knob back to OFF, wait a moment for gas to clear, and try again.

If there’s no spark

  • Check your 12V supply is on.
  • Check the burner parts are seated correctly and clean.
  • If it still won’t spark, stop and contact a service agent.

How to Switch Off

  1. Turn the burner knob back to OFF (zero).
  2. When finished cooking, turn OFF the gas supply at the bottle/cylinder (and any isolation tap).
  3. Let everything cool completely before closing the glass lid.

Cleaning & Care

  • Let the cooktop cool to ambient temperature before cleaning.
  • Use a soft cloth/sponge and standard household cleaning agents.
  • Do not use sharp or hard objects (they can damage surfaces).
  • Do not use a steam cleaner.
  • When cleaning, pay special attention to the burners to ensure there are no blockages.

Maintenance & Safety

  • If gas valves become difficult to turn, treat this as abnormal operation and have the unit inspected.
  • For safety, the cooktop should be checked annually by authorised personnel.
  • If you ever smell gas: ventilate immediately, avoid switches/flames, and shut off the gas supply.

Troubleshooting (Common Issues)

Burner won’t light

  • Confirm gas supply is on at the bottle/cylinder and isolation tap.
  • Make sure the burner is correctly seated and ports are not blocked.
  • Check 12V is on (for ignition).

Burner lights but goes out when you release the knob

  • Re-light and hold the knob in a little longer so the flame safeguard can activate.
  • If it keeps happening, arrange service.

Uneven flame / lifting flame / yellow sooty flame

  • Stop using the cooktop and contact an authorised service agent.
