Electric Awning – Basic Operation

Electric Awning – Basic Operation

Your Mars van may be fitted with an electric awning to give you quick and easy shade at the push of a button.

Before You Extend the Awning

  • Make sure the area beside the van is clear.
  • Check there are no trees, poles or other obstacles in the way.
  • Make sure there is enough clearance for the awning to fully extend.
  • Do not operate the awning in strong wind.

Extending the Awning

  1. Locate the awning control switch.
  2. Press and hold the extend button.
  3. Allow the awning to roll out smoothly for about 800mm and press stop. NB* The awning won't self-support all teh way out.
  4. Take out the legs folded up in the awning and lower them so it supports the awning.
  5. Press open and as teh awning is extending walk out the legs until full extended. The awning will automatically stop.
  6. Return the button to the middle position once the awning is fully extended.

Some models may also allow you to adjust the pitch or drop on one side to help with shade or water run-off.

Retracting the Awning

  1. Make sure the area is clear.
  2. Check that no loose items are caught in the awning arms or fabric.
  3. Press and hold the retract button.
  4. Walk the awning back as you did when extending until the awning is about 800mm from the van and press stop.
  5. Restract and fold the legs back up inside the awning.
  6. Press close and allow the awning to close fully back against the van.
  7. Return the button back to the middle position once it is fully retracted. It will stop automatically

Important Notes

  • Never leave the awning out unattended.
  • Always retract the awning in windy conditions.
  • Always retract the awning before travelling.
  • Do not hang heavy items from the awning arms or fabric.
  • If rain is expected, angle one side lower if your model allows it so water does not pool on the fabric.

Using the Awning Safely

The awning is designed to provide shade and light weather protection, but it is not designed to handle strong wind, heavy rain build-up or storm conditions. Sudden weather changes can damage the awning very quickly, so it is always best to bring it in early.

If the Awning Does Not Operate

  • Check that the van has 12V power available.
  • Check that the control switch is operating correctly.
  • Check that nothing is obstructing the awning arms or roller.
  • Do not force the awning by hand unless instructed in the manual for your specific model.

If the awning still does not operate correctly, contact Mars Campers for support.

Helpful Tip

Before leaving your campsite, always do a quick visual check to make sure the awning is fully closed and secure before towing.
