Stabiliser Legs – Basic Operation
The stabiliser legs on your van are designed to help steady the van once you are parked and set up. They are not designed to lift, level or carry the weight of the van.
Before You Put the Legs Down
- Park the van in position and make sure it is level first.
- Apply the handbrake.
- Use wheel chocks where required.
Lowering the Stabiliser Legs
- Lower each stabiliser leg down toward the ground.
- A rattle gun can be used to wind the legs down until they make contact with the ground.
- Once the leg is on the ground, use the manual winder to gently tighten and stabilise the van.
Important: Always use the manual winder to stabilise the van once the leg touches the ground.
Using a Rattle Gun
A rattle gun is fine for running the stabiliser legs up or down quickly, but it should not be used to apply force to stabilise the van.
Important: If force is applied with a rattle gun to try and stabilise or lift the van, the internal gearing can break.
How Tight Should They Be?
The legs only need to be firm against the ground to reduce movement in the van. They should not be wound up hard and should never be used to try to level the van.
Packing the Legs Away
- Use the manual winder or rattle gun to wind the stabiliser legs back up.
- Make sure each leg is fully raised and secured in the travel position.
- Do a final visual check before towing away.
Important Notes
- Stabiliser legs are for stabilising only.
- Do not use them to level the van.
- Do not use them to lift the van or take weight off the wheels.
- Always use the manual winder for final tension when stabilising.
- Make sure the legs are fully up before travelling.
Helpful Tip
If the ground is uneven or soft, use a suitable pad under the foot of the stabiliser leg so it has a firm base and does not sink in.
