Mains Water Connection and Filling Fresh Water Tanks – Basic Operation

Mains Water Connection and Filling Fresh Water Tanks – Basic Operation

Your Mars van can generally be used in two ways for water:
  • Mains water – when connected directly to a park or site tap.
  • Tank water – when using the van’s onboard fresh water tanks and pump.

Connecting to Mains Water

  1. Locate the mains water inlet on the outside of the van.
  2. Use a clean, food-grade hose.
  3. Connect the hose securely to the park tap and then to the van’s mains water inlet. (NB* You use a plastic hose fitting to connect to the van. Available at Bunnings/Mitre10)
  4. Turn the tap on slowly and check for leaks.
  5. Once connected, the van’s taps and shower can be used from mains pressure.

When connected to mains water, you generally do not need to run the water pump.

Important Notes for Mains Water

  • Turn the tap on slowly rather than at full pressure straight away.
  • Use a pressure regulator if required by your setup or campsite water pressure.
  • Check all fittings are secure and not leaking.
  • Disconnect the hose before travelling.

Filling the Fresh Water Tanks

  1. Locate the fresh water tank filler point or filler points on the outside of the van.
  2. Remove the filler cap.
  3. Insert a clean hose into the filler.
  4. Turn the tap on and begin filling the tank.
  5. Watch the filler closely as the tank fills.
  6. Once water begins to overflow or come back up at the filler or breather, the tank is full.
  7. Turn the tap off and remove the hose.
  8. Refit the filler cap securely.

Using Water from the Tanks

To use water from the onboard tanks, make sure there is water in the tanks and turn the water pump on. The pump will pressurise the system and supply water to your taps, toilet and shower as fitted.  NB*The pump is not required when connected to main water.

Helpful Tips

  • Use clean drinking-water-safe hoses only.
  • Do not leave tanks unattended while filling.
  • Make sure filler caps are put back on properly after filling.
  • If changing from mains water back to tank water, disconnect the mains hose and turn the pump back on.

If You Have Low or No Water Flow

  • Check the site tap is turned on.
  • Check the hose is not kinked.
  • Check the inlet connection is secure.
  • If using tank water, make sure the pump is switched on and there is water in the tanks.

If water flow still seems incorrect, contact Mars Campers for support.
