Alpicool CR65 Built-In Fridge Freezer – Quick How-To Guide

The Alpicool CR65 is a 65L built-in 12/24V compressor fridge commonly fitted in campervans and caravans. It has a main refrigerator (cooling) zone plus a small freezer zone, controlled from the front LCD panel.

Quick Highlights

  • Capacity: 65L
  • Power: 12/24V DC
  • Zone temperature ranges: Fridge (RE) 0–8°C • Freezer (FR) -12 to -20°C
  • Battery protection: 3 levels (L / M / H) to help protect your van battery

Control Panel Basics

The CR65 panel typically has:

  • POWER button (on/off)
  • SET / Settings button (shows RE/FR and opens battery protection settings)
  • + and - buttons (adjust temperature)
  • LCD display (shows the internal temperature and/or settings)

How To Use (Simple Step-by-Step)

1) Power the fridge

  • Make sure your van’s 12V system is ON and the fridge has power.
  • For best performance, ensure the fridge area is well ventilated (don’t block vents or airflow).

2) Turn the fridge ON

  1. Press the POWER button.
  2. The display will show the internal temperature.

3) Set the temperature (Fridge zone RE / Freezer zone FR)

  1. Press the SET / Settings button to display FR (freezer zone) or RE (refrigerator zone).
  2. Use + or - to adjust the temperature for the zone shown.
  3. Press SET / Settings again to switch between FR and RE, then adjust as needed.

Good starting points: RE (fridge) 2–4°C • FR (freezer) -16 to -18°C.

4) Set the Battery Protection level (L / M / H)

The CR65 has a three-level battery protection function to help prevent your battery voltage dropping too low. The factory default is typically H (High protection).

  1. With the fridge ON, press and hold the SET / Settings button for about 3 seconds.
  2. The display will flash the current level (L / M / H).
  3. Press SET / Settings to cycle between L → M → H.
  • H (High): best when running from a starter battery (more protection).
  • M or L: more suitable when running from a deep-cycle/house battery (longer runtime).

5) Reset the control (if it’s behaving strangely)

  1. Turn the fridge OFF.
  2. Press and hold the SET / Settings button until E1 is displayed.
  3. Press + and - together until the display resets.

Best Performance Tips

  • Limit door openings — it lets warm air in fast.
  • Don’t overpack — allow airflow around items.
  • Keep vents clear and the fridge area well ventilated.
  • If a lot of warm food/drinks go in at once, give it time — it may take a while to pull down to temperature.
  • Frequent on/off switching can cause a compressor start delay (normal behaviour).

Defrosting

Defrost when frost builds up to more than about 3mm to keep efficiency high.

  1. Turn the fridge OFF.
  2. Leave the door open so it can defrost naturally.
  3. Wipe dry before turning it back on.

Do not use sharp tools to remove ice — you can puncture the cooling plate and permanently damage the fridge.

Cleaning & Storage

  • Disconnect power before cleaning.
  • Exterior: wipe with warm, then cold water, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive products.
  • Interior: remove shelves/racks and clean with warm water. A small amount of bicarbonate of soda or vinegar can help with odours. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Condenser: clean at least once per year using a vacuum or dry brush.

Storage / long periods not using the van

  1. Turn the fridge OFF and disconnect power (if applicable).
  2. Remove all contents and clean the interior.
  3. Make sure it’s completely dry.
  4. Leave the door ajar to prevent mould and odours.

Troubleshooting (Common)

  • Fridge won’t turn on: check power is on, fuse is OK, plug/socket connection is secure.
  • Not cold enough: door opened often, warm food added recently, or airflow/ventilation is blocked.
  • Food freezing in fridge area: temperature set too low — increase the RE setting.

Error / Fault Codes (Quick Meaning)

  • F1: low voltage / battery protection active — charge battery or lower protection level (H → M → L).
  • F2–F6: restart recommended — disconnect power for ~30 minutes, then re-start.
  • F7 or F8: temperature sensor fault — contact service.
