EvaKool 95L Down Under II Fridge Freezer (Dual Zone) – Quick How-To Guide
Many Mars vans are fitted with the EvaKool 95L Down Under II Dual Zone Fridge Freezer (model DU95-DZ). It’s designed to run from 12/24V DC (Anderson-style connection) or 240V AC via the included power adaptor, and it features Eco/Max compressor modes plus 3-level battery protection.
Quick Highlights
- Dual zone: Zone 1 (40L) + Zone 2 (55L) = 95L total.
- Temperature range: +10°C to -18°C.
- Recommended starting points: Fridge 2°C / Freezer -16°C.
- Power: 12/24V DC or 240V AC (via adaptor).
Before You Start (Important)
- Ventilation matters: keep vents clear and allow space around the vent areas.
- Keep it dry: don’t use the fridge if connections could be wet.
- No hosing: never clean it with a hose and never submerge it in water.
- Pre-chill when you can: cooling is faster and more efficient when the cabinet is already cold.
Control Panel Basics
The control panel lets you:
- Turn the fridge On/Off
- Set Room 1 (larger bin) and Room 2 (smaller bin) temperatures
- Select Eco or Max compressor mode
- Set the battery protection level (Low / Medium / High)
- View any error code on the display
How To Use (Step-by-Step)
1) Power it up
- 12/24V (in the van): Plug the 12/24V lead into the fridge’s Anderson-style inlet, then connect to your van’s 12/24V Anderson power point.
- 240V (at home or powered site): Connect the Anderson-style plug to the power adaptor, turn the outlet on, then turn the fridge on.
2) Turn the fridge on/off
Press and hold the On/Off button for 1–2 seconds.
3) Set the temperature (Room 1 and Room 2)
- Press SET once to select Room 1 (larger bin).
- Press SET twice to select Room 2 (smaller bin).
- While the selected room is flashing, use the + / - buttons to choose your temperature.
- Wait a few seconds — it will auto-save.
Good starting point: Room 1 at 2°C (fridge) and Room 2 at -16°C (freezer).
4) Choose Eco or Max mode
- Press SET 3 times (until the mode selection appears).
- Use + / - to select Eco or Max.
- Wait a few seconds — it will auto-save.
- Eco: recommended when ambient temps are ~30°C or less.
- Max: recommended when ambient temps are ~30°C or more.
5) Set battery protection (Low / Medium / High)
- Press SET 4 times (until battery mode appears).
- Use + / - to pick Low, Medium, or High.
- Wait a few seconds — it will auto-save.
Tip: If you’re running from a starter battery, use High. If you’re running from an auxiliary battery (or on 240V), Low is typically fine.
6) Run only one compartment (optional)
If you only need one side running:
- Press and hold the UP arrow for 3 seconds to turn OFF the large bin (repeat to turn it back ON).
- Press and hold the DOWN arrow for 3 seconds to turn OFF the smaller bin (repeat to turn it back ON).
Best Performance Tips
- Use the baskets so air can circulate properly inside the cabinet.
- Keep the vents clear and avoid blocking airflow around the compressor area.
- Limit lid openings (every open = warm air in).
- Don’t load it full of warm drinks/food all at once — cool items first when possible.
Cleaning, Defrosting & Storage
Cleaning
- Wipe interior and exterior with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent, then dry thoroughly.
- Avoid scourers, harsh cleaners, solvents, or oil-based products (they can damage surfaces).
- Do not hose the unit out and do not submerge it in water.
Defrosting
- Turn the fridge OFF and disconnect power.
- Leave lids open so ice melts naturally.
- Drain/wipe any moisture and make sure the cabinet is completely dry.
Storage
- Store the fridge clean and completely dry.
- Leave the lid ajar to prevent mould/odours.
- Don’t store electrical adaptors/leads inside the cabinet.
Quick Troubleshooting
It won’t turn on
- Check the power supply and connection at the plug/socket.
- Confirm the fridge is actually switched on.
- Check the resettable circuit breaker (if it has popped, press it back in).
- If using a cigarette adaptor (optional accessory), check the fuse in the adaptor.
If you see an error code
E1 commonly points to low voltage — try a different power source, check cabling, or adjust the battery cut-out mode.
For other codes, a quick reset (unplug for ~10 minutes) can help, otherwise contact EvaKool support.
